Hi there! So you may be wondering why we began this journey or what it’s even about- well this page will answer those questions.
We are a family of 4; mother (me), father, daughter (aged 4 at the beginning of journey) and son (aged 1 at the beginning of journey), who have decided to embark on a journey of travelling around Europe.
Why, you ask? Well, it all began one day when my husband came home from a long day at work (again) and asked me if I’d be happy with the way I’ve lived my life if I was to pass away tomorrow. Morbid I know BUT one of the questions that I think needs to be asked more often in life in order to reflect upon your life’s desires and priorities. The answer to said question will be different for everyone but my answer was no, I wouldn’t be happy. Why? Because my husband worked ridiculously long hours and days sometimes we wouldn’t see him for days or a week whilst he was away with work. Now I know other people work long hours and are fine with that but as a family we weren’t fine with that and it wasn’t working for us. My husband missed out on family life, our children missed their daddy terribly, I missed my husband and the help I urgently needed to help run the household and children. Plus I wanted to travel- a desire my husband and I shared.
It had been a hell of a year- Feb 2018 we had moved house yet again not long after “doing up” the old house and had this new house to redecorate all over again whilst I was pregnant and had a 3 year old to look after and a husband who worked long hours, we then lost my brother (my sister’s partner) in the June of that year and then I had given birth to our son in July- this latter part should have been an amazing part of the year however I had severe post natal depression and suffered horrendously which led my husband to ask me the question.
His answer to mine? “Well why don’t I just quit work and we’ll go travelling as a family?”…..Whoa!!! Normally I’m the spontaneous one and I would have been like “Hell yeah!” But that was me before having kids! Instead I had a mouthful of questions- what would we do with our stuff? What about school? The house? What about money? The list goes on. It all came down to stuff- did any of it really matter? Our little girl didn’t need to start school until the following year either. I found myself wondering from room to room and realised there was little I would want to keep if it came to selling all our stuff. So when my husband came home that evening I said “Okay, let’s do it” and so our planning commenced.
We decided to travel Europe for a number of reasons- the main reason; it was easy to travel to and we could pack up our motorhome before we left.
We then created this blog once on our journey to share our experiences and hopefully ignite other people’s passions to either do the same thing or follow their own dreams. You only regret the things you didn’t do so live life to it’s fullest. We hope you enjoy following us on our journey.
